Began his career as more of a checker and penalty killer than a scorer, but has developed his offensive skills as he has matured. He plays bigger than his 5'10" frame but can wear down if overused. Is an excellent threat to score a shorthanded goal and one of the NHL's most effective centers in the face-off circle.
