RED WINGS LAND VETERAN D ZIDLICKY Monday, March 2, 2015
The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Marek Zidlicky from the New Jersey Devils for conditional draft picks in 2016.
What does it give the Detroit Red Wings?
This is a solid pickup for Detroit, who have lacked right-handed players for a while now. Zidlicky should provide third-pairing depth and also contribute greatly on the team's top power play unit--due to his great point shot. Zidlicky is a short-term solution.
What does it give the New Jersey Devils?
This is also a fine move by the Devils at this time. They are guaranteed to land at least a third-round pick here, and that could turn into a second rounder if the Red Wings reach the Stanley Cup finals. That's a good move in return for a 38-year old.
Fantasy Impact
For now, Zidlicky should enjoy a fantasy spike playing in Detroit--where he should be a very nice fit. He might not be back with them next season, though, so keep that in mind. A potential loser here could be Marchenko Detroit's rookie D-man who may sit to accomodate Zidlicky.
