In Green, the Oilers land a veteran offensive defenseman who should help the blueline down the stretch. Edmonton is currently missing defensemen Oscar Klefbom and Kris Russell, so this move was necessary. Edmonton GM Ken Holland is very familiar with Green from their time together in Detroit. This was a solid trade for the Oilers because Green should help the team while Klefbom is out.

The Red Wings agreed to retain half of Green's salary for the rest of 2019-20, plus they picked up the contract of Brodziak (who was forced to retire in training camp earlier this season due to injury). Detroit will receive a fourth-round pick in '20 here, though the pick will turn into a third in '21 if Edmonton reaches the Western Conference finals and Green appears in at least 50 percent of their games.

Green may replace Darnell Nurse on Edmonton's first power-play unit (temporarily) while Klefbom is sidelined, so his stock figures to go up as a member of the Oilers. As a result, Green is a solid trade acquisition candidate in most fantasy leagues down the stretch.
