A big, smooth-skating defenseman, he has the size to play a physical shutdown game. Does not move the puck especially well, which is why he has bounced around the NHL. However, he has become a reliable stopper in terms of limiting high-danger chances, largely by playing a sound positional style. He is a left-handed defenseman but can play effectively on either side, which increases his value.
