After battling injury and playing in only 26 games a season ago, Weiss has much to prove. He finished with four points in 2013-14, and will most likely go undrafted heading into this season.

Stephen Weiss should be fine for preseason

News
Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) is expected to be fine for the start of training camp.
Forecaster Impact
"(Trainer) Piet Van Zant texted him two days ago," Red Wings GM Ken Holland said regarding Weiss. "He said he's feeling great, he's training hard; he's played some shinny (pick-up hockey)." Weiss had just four points and 12 penalty minutes in 26 games in 2013-14. After a lackluster summer for Detroit, they'll be counting on Weiss to bounce back.

Stephen Weiss 'optimistic' about his recovery
Detroit News
News
Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) sounds like he's on the mend.
Forecaster Impact
"(Stephen) Weiss is working out real hard, I talked to him, he's optimistic he's headed in the right direction," GM Ken Holland said. Weiss was limited to 26 games during his first season with the Red Wings and he produced just four points. If he's healthy going into next year then he should be plenty motivated to bounce back.

Weiss not even working out
Detroit Free Press
News
Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) isn't even able to work out.
Forecaster Impact
He is having a terrible time recovering from December sports hernia surgery and will likely not be able to do any serious training for at least another month. The Red Wings are concerned that if Weiss is not able to start getting into shape soon, he may not be ready for training camp in September. "We're going to continue to look for answers to why is he not getting healthy," Detroit GM Ken Holland said. "It's hard to know where he's going to be in September. A lot of where he's going to be in September is really going to be about, is he going to be able to ... have a June, July and August where he's able to hit the gym and come to camp healthy, fit, ready to go." Weiss was a bust this past season and by the looks of it he is not a good bet to comeback next season.

Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) tried to push through his injuries and he regrets that decision.
Forecaster Impact
"I wanted to do things the right way, but maybe if I took some time at the start of the season, maybe it would have done me better than being a hero a little bit," he said. "I got myself into some trouble that could have been avoided if I was smarter." Weiss will begin another round of rehabilitation soon following a procedure last week to remove some scar tissue. He is optimistic that he'll be ready to go for training camp in the fall.

Weiss isn't expected to return this season
Red Wings Front
News
It looks like Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) won't return before the end of the season.
Forecaster Impact
"I don't really know where he's at," Wings GM Ken Holland said. "I know he's frustrated. He's not on the horizon to come back. I was just in there talking to Steve, talking to our trainers, everybody is a little bit frustrated because we obviously thought he would be back by now, actually a long time ago." Detroit is considering sending Weiss back to the doctor who performed his sports hernia surgery in December. Weiss' first season with Detroit couldn't have gone much worse as he scored just two goals and four points in 26 games.

Weiss skates on own for 1st time 10 days

News
Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) skated on his own for the first time in 10 days.
Forecaster Impact
The Wings were encouraged to see Weiss back on the ice but don't expect him to return to action during the regualr season. It has been a nightmare campaign for the former Panther as he played poorly when in the lineup and has missed the bulk of the season due to injury.
