Whoa! This is quite a shocking development, as Calgary already boasts a great group of four blueliners. Now with Hamilton in tow, the Flames can afford to part with a defenseman in order to re-stock their future assets shelves. A restricted free agent, Hamilton will sign a big deal with Calgary and become part of the team's great, young nucleus moving forward. A veteran--Mark Giordano (one more year left on his contract before UFA status), Dennis Wideman or Kris Russell--may be moved.

This move is both incredibly curious and positively intriguing from the Bruins standpoint. Instead of making a series of moves in order to be able to keep pending RFA Hamilton, new Boston GM Don Sweeney instead decided to move Hamilton himself (for future assets ONLY). The B's receive three early picks in the deep 2015 draft but are now left with a fairly large hole along their blueline. Asset-wise, it's a strong move by Boston. However, they're now in clear regression.

Hamilton's fantasy value, like that of Giordano, Wideman and Russell, may depend (at least in the short term) on whatever other moves Calgary GM Brad Treliving makes with regards to his blueline. That said, Hamilton's fantasy stock is on the rise.
