PENS, BLUES SWAP D-MEN Monday, March 2, 2015
The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Ian Cole from the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and a seventh-round draft pick in 2016.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins?
Cole is a bit more talented than Bortuzzo, but he's also a bruiser. The Penguins hope he can play a more regular role along their blueline than the departing Bortuzzo. Cole has played both left and right defense in St. Louis, and may be needed to play on the right side (he's left-handed) on the Pens, too.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues?
Bortuzzo will probably be a No. 7 defenseman in St. Louis, since they're deeper and more veteran-laden than the Pens' blueline. He's also an insurance policy in case fellow newcomer Michalek (concussion) has a recurring issue going forward. The Blues also got a late pick in next year's draft.
Fantasy Impact
There isn't much fantasy impact here, as both Cole and Bortuzzo are more of the stay-at-home defense variety. Both Cole and Bortuzzo should not be on the radar at this point.
