SCANDELLA SENT TO ST. LOUIS Tuesday, February 18, 2020
The St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Marco Scandella from the Montreal Canadiens for a second-round draft pick in 2020 and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues?
There is a good chance that the Blues would not have been in the market for another veteran defenseman if Jay Bouwmeester had not suffered a heart episode recently. With Bouwmeester's status completely up in the air, Scandella's addition should provide the necessary depth St. Louis needs for another long playoff run this spring.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens?
The Canadiens did well to land a second-round pick in '20 for Scandella, who recently arrived from Buffalo. Montreal retained 50 percent of Scandella's salary, and can also acquire a fourth-round pick in '21 in this deal if St. Louis re-signs Scandella prior to October 7, 2020 or if they win two playoff rounds this spring (and Scandella appears in 50% of their games).
Fantasy Impact
Scandella has a big point shot but he is unlikely to see much playing time on the Blues' power play down the stretch. He should not be picked up in virtually all fantasy formats.
