SUBBAN SENT TO NEW JERSEY! Saturday, June 22, 2019
The New Jersey Devils acquired defenseman P.K. Subban from the Nashville Predators for defensemen Steven Santini and Jeremy Davies, a second-round draft pick in 2019 (No. 34 overall) and a second-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the New Jersey Devils?
This is a blockbuster trade for the Devils, who just drafted Jack Hughes with the first overall pick and now boast a true No. 1 defenseman in Subban--who had a bit of an off-year in 2018-19. Subban can (and should) play in all situations and complement New Jersey's stable of good young forwards.
What does it give the Nashville Predators?
Nashville needed to clear cap space because the team is expected to pursue center Matt Duchene when free agency opens. Santini is a serviceable player who should add depth to the Predators' blueline. Davies is a decent prospect, while the two second-rounders should help as well.
Fantasy Impact
Subban was one of four quality blueliners in Nashville, but he will be handed the keys to a top blueline role with the Devils. Expect a major rebound season for No. 76 in 2019-20. Santini will remain a depth defenseman even after the trade from Jersey to Tennessee, while Davies is a few years away from knocking on the NHL door.
