The Bruins were expected to make a bigger splash for a winger before the deadline, but ultimately landed Johansson in what appears to be a playoff rental situation. Veteran Johansson can play up and down the lineup and should help Boston's forward depth (especially with leading goal-scorer David Pastrnak still injured). The Devils also retained 40 percent of Johansson's salary to help facilitate the trade.

For New Jersey, this is a pretty good deal because both draft picks are unconditional. It has been a disastrous 2018-19 campaign for the Devils, but at least they have done fairly well to retool by shipping out their pending unrestricted free agents (Brian Boyle, Ben Lovejoy, Keith Kinkaid and now Johansson) for future assets. Getting a second rounder and a fourth rounder here was a solid return.

Johansson could score at a better rate in Boston but he may not make a major impact due to the team's depth up front. He is a risky pickup at this time via trade in most fantasy leagues, though he should be picked up (speculatively) if available on the waiver wire.
