McQUAID MOVED TO COLUMBUS Monday, February 25, 2019
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Adam McQuaid from the New York Rangers for a fourth-round draft pick in 2019, a seventh-round draft pick in 2019 and defenseman Julius Bergman.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets?
The Blue Jackets are the most active team at this season's trade deadline, so it should not surprise anyone that they added more depth for their blueline in the form of McQuaid, who was originally drafted by Columbus (55th overall in 2005) but never signed. He was subsequently traded to Boston. McQuaid adds a third right defenseman for the Jackets, behind Seth Jones and David Savard. Are the Blue Jackets finally done dealing? Probably.
What does it give the New York Rangers?
For the Rangers, getting two more draft picks for McQuaid's services helps with their overall rebuilding plan. An unrestricted free agent on July 1, McQuaid is a veteran D-man who helped New York in the leadership department. That said, the Blueshirts will move forward with Neal Pionk, Tony DeAngelo and Kevin Shattenkirk as right defensemen on the roster. The Rangers paid a similar price with Boston when they originally acquired McQuaid last year.
Fantasy Impact
McQuaid is mostly a defensive defenseman, so his fantasy value remains negligible in most leagues. Bergman has no fantasy value, either.
