COYOTES JETTISON JORDAN WEAL TO MONTREAL Monday, February 25, 2019
The Montreal Canadiens acquired forward Jordan Weal from the Arizona Coyotes for forward Michael Chaput.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens?
The Canadiens are in a playoff spot at the moment, but their biggest bugaboo this season has been a lackluster power play. Weal may be able to help, although he may also be in and out of the Montreal lineup. Still, he can play all three forward positions and adds some value.
What does it give the Arizona Coyotes?
For the Coyotes, Chaput is a journeyman who can play center on the fourth line (but was currently toiling in the AHL). He adds organizational depth and may be able to get back to the highest level before the end of 2018-19. He is the epitome of a role player.
Fantasy Impact
Weal was on Arizona's fourth line recently, so his value may be helped by a move to Montreal. However, Weal may play a fourth-line role with his new team, as well. The key to his potential production with the Habs will be his power-play ice time. As for Chaput, he is just a fourth-line, energy forward devoid of fantasy value.
