HABS, FLAMES SWAP LEFT-WINGERS Monday, August 20, 2018
The Montreal Canadiens acquired winger Hunter Shinkaruk from the Calgary Flames for winger Kerby Rychel
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens?
This is a classic swap of journeymen who play the same position (LW) where everybody involved is looking for a fresh opportunity. While Rychel is more of a robust, up-and-down winger, Shinkaruk plays with more finesse. He is expected to spend most of 2018-19 with the AHL's Laval Rocket but may see time in Montreal if the injury bug strikes up front.
What does it give the Calgary Flames?
In Rychel, the Flames add a little more sandpaper to their forward depth. He has a little more NHL experience than Shinkaruk but is also expected to play mostly at the American Hockey League level this season. Both Rychel and Shinkaruk will turn 24 years old this year, so time is running out for both to establish themselves as full-time NHLers.
Fantasy Impact
Neither Shinkaruk nor Rychel have much in the way of fantasy value, as neither is expected to spend a lot of time in the big league this season.
