HABS ADD MORE SIZE WITH MARTINSEN Wednesday, March 1, 2017
The Montreal Canadiens acquired winger Andreas Martinsen from the Colorado Avalanche for winger Sven Andrighetto.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens?
The Canadiens have recently added Jordie Benn, Brandon Davidson, Steve Ott and Dwight King for their playoff push. Now, they get yet another big, gritty player in fourth liner Martinsen. A potential unrestricted free agent this summer, Martinsen will play a depth role with Montreal and add another hard-hitting forward to play against for a team that is looking for a makeover under new head coach Claude Julien.
What does it give the Colorado Avalanche?
Andrighetto was on waivers earlier this season but went unclaimed. That said, the skilled Swiss winger is just 23 years old and could get a golden opportunity to show his worth on the rebuilding Avalanche. Colorado General Manager Joe Sakic did well here to add a skilled player with potential in exchange for an expiring contract who was more of a role player than impact forward on his hockey club.
Fantasy Impact
Andrighetto now has far more fantasy value for the rest of this season, and possibly beyond. A potential restricted free agent this summer, he needs to prove he can produce offense in Colorado in order to secure a contract beyond 2016-17. He is a solid fantasy dark horse. Martinsen, on the other hand, has no fantasy value in the NHL.
