Montreal Canadiens Eastern Conference Atlantic Division
Trade Details
A SWAP OF SECOND-GENERATION D-MEN Tuesday, February 21, 2017
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Philip Samuelsson from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Keegan Lowe.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes?
In Samuelsson, the Hurricanes land the son of former Hartford Whalers standout (and current Charlotte Checkers coach) Ulf Samuelsson, so there are obvious ties to the Hurricanes organization here. Samuelsson will probably provide depth for the rest of this season, and no more.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens?
Lowe is the son of former Edmonton Oilers standout defenseman (and province of Quebec native) Kevin Lowe, and he too was acquired to serve as organizational depth for Montreal. This is an interesting deal if only for the last names involved (both second-generation D-men).
Fantasy Impact
Neither Samuelsson nor Lowe is an offensive defenseman (and neither were their fathers)! Therefore, there is nothing to see here from a fantasy perspective.
