The Blackhawks released Samuelsson (groin) from his professional tryout agreement Friday.

Samuelsson -- who is with the Blackhawks on an amatuer tryout -- is considered day-to-day with a groin injury.

Samuelsson will join the Blackhawks for training camp, TSN reports.

Samuelsson wasn't extended a qualifying offer by the Oilers and will become an unrestricted free agent, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.

Samuelsson was traded from the Coyotes to the Oilers on Wednesday in exchange for forward Mitchell Moroz.

Samuelsson was assigned to AHL Springfield.

Samuelsson signed a one-year (two-way), contract that will pay him $600,000 at the NHL level with the Coyotes on Tuesday, Tim Wharnsby of CBC Sports reports.

"He's been able to have great success at the junior level without really pushing himself as hard as I think he can. And when I say that, it's just the pace that he plays at, the tempo, the shift-in, shift-out quickness of the game." Samuelsson will be in tough to make the Coyotes next season so expect to see him in the AHL, at least at the start of the season.

He registered two goals and three helpers in the match to finish as the tournament's leading scorer. Samuelsson posted eight points in five games. He is projected to start his professional career next year and could challenge for a roster spot with the Phoenix Coyotes out of training camp.
