Paterson did not receive a qualifying offer from the Red Wings, which means he's an unrestricted free agent, MLive.com reports.
Jake Paterson has been called up by the Detroit Red Wings.
This move is might be in response to Jimmy Howard being unavailable due to the flu, but it's just as likely that they wanted the 19-year-old Paterson to soak in the playoff atmosphere. Paterson had a 3.41 GAA and .906 save percentage in 45 OHL games. Obviously, he's not expected to get any playing time during Detroit's postseason run.
The Detroit Red Wings have signed goaltending prospect Jake Paterson to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The Wings chose him in the third round (80th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Paterson is currently playing in the OHL with the Saginaw Spirit.
