Biggs has been sent to AHL Wilkes-Barre, the Penguins' minor-league affiliate, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Biggs (Achilles) was traded Wednesday to the Penguins along with forward Phil Kessel, defenseman Tim Erixon, and a 2016 second-round draft pick in exchange for forwards Nick Spaling, Kasperi Kapanen, defenseman Scott Harrington, and 2016 first- and third-round draft picks, Sportsnet.ca reports.
Tyler Biggs treated his first pro season as a learning experience.
"The whole year was an experience for me, learning how how to become a professional, learning how to handle certain situations, handle adversity," he said. "I saw a lot of it this year, sometimes with injuries, sometimes not being in the lineup when you wanted to be." The 6-foot-3, 224-pound winger battled shoulder injuries in 2013-14 and contributed just nine points in 57 games with the Marlies in the AHL. Biggs was selected with the 22nd pick in the 2011 draft and if he makes the NHL then it will probably be as a bottom-six skater.
Tyler Biggs and Jesse Blacker have been sent down to the AHL Toronto Marlies.
That reduces the number of players on the Toronto Maple Leafs' roster to 34. Toronto took Biggs with the 22nd overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Tyler Biggs plans to emulate David Clarkson the best he can now that the ex-Devil is with the Leafs.
The Leafs' top pick from the 2011 draft has top-six upside and now an in-organization role model to look up to. "He's a great power forward, a right winger, a guy that physically dominated and played with grit," Biggs said of Clarkson. "You look at him his past couple of years, he's really put the numbers up as well. To be well-rounded like that is definitely a goal." It will help that the Marlies' AHL coach is Steve Spott, who coached Clarkson in junior. The feisty Biggs had 26 goals, 53 points and 55 penalty minutes last season.
Tyler Biggs will report to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
He will join the team this weekend after playing his first season with the OHL's Oshawa Generals. Biggs registered 26 goals, 53 points and 55 penalty minutes in 60 games.
