Harper was released from his professional tryout agreement Monday, Jim Cerny of Sporting News reports.
Harper was traded from the Panthers to the Devils on Wednesday in exchange for defenseman Reece Scarlett.
Harper was placed on waivers Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Harper found twine twice at even strength in Saturday's 5-2 win over the visiting Avalanche. He also picked up five PIM for fighting.
