Varone agreed to a contract with KHL club Barys Nur-Sultan on Thursday, per his agent Aljosa Pilko.
Varone, along with Riley Barber, were acquired by the Penguins from the Habs on Thursday in a swap for Joseph Blandisi and Jake Lucchini.
Varone penned a one-year, two-way contract with the Habs on Wednesday worth $700,000 at the NHL level.
Varone finished the 2018-19 season with three goals, seven points, 34 shots on net, eight PIM and a minus-2 rating in 47 games.
Varone has no points with a plus-1 rating, four PIM and four shots in the last six games.
Varone has two goals and six points with a plus-5 rating in the last 12 games since returning from the All-Star break.
Varone has a goal in his last three games, giving him two this season.
Varone doesn't have any points and possesses a minus-1 rating in the last six games.
Varone was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Thursday.
The Flyers recalled Varone from AHL Lehigh Valley on Friday.
