Nodl is calling it a career after announcing his retirement Thursday.
Carolina Hurricanes decline to extend qualifying offers to forwards AJ Jenks, Andreas Nodl and Luke Pither, defensemen Justin Krueger and Joe Sova and goaltender John Muse.
The decision ensures all players will be unrestricted free agents when the market opens Friday, although Krueger has reportedly signed with Bern of the Swiss Elite League.
Andreas Nodl has been sent down to AHL Charlotte.
Nodl has an assist in eight games this season. He's a veteran of 183 NHL games and should get another shot in the NHL at some point.
Andreas Nodl was claimed off waivers by CAR on Friday February 1.
Andreas Nodl was placed on waivers by Carolina on Wednesday.
If he clears by noon then the Hurricanes have the option of sending him to the AHL. Nodl played 48 games for Carolina last season after being claimed off the waiver wire from Philadelphia. The Canes still have a number of AHL Charlotte players on their camp roster, so they may be giving them serious looks for spots on opening night.
Andreas Nodl is in very good shape following his stint with HC Innsbruck in Austria.
Nodl is a native of Vienna, so he was playing close to home. In 17 games in Austria, Nodl scored four goals and registered 15 points. He will lineup as a third or fourth liner in Carolina this season, and despite his apparent excellent condition, will have no fantasy value.
