James Sheppard is still upbeat about the San Jose Sharks' chances of winning the Stanley Cup in the near future.
The Sharks management seems to be pushing for a more long-term strategy, but Sheppard expects the team to bounce back after blowing a 3-0 series lead to Los Angeles in the playoffs. "It was important to me stay in San Jose because we have all the ingredients for a championship team," Sheppard said. "Players, coaching, organization and of course the fans. After learning an important lesson last year, I think we are in a position to accomplish what we want, and that is to win." He inked a one-year, $1.3 million extension with the Sharks this summer.
James Sheppard's newly inked one-year contract is worth $1.2 million.

Todd McLellan is not happy with the play of his third line of late.
The line usually is centered by James Sheppard. "That third group with Shep and whoever is playing with him - Tommy Wingels, or Matt Nieto, or whoever else is on that wing - has to elevate their game, and their level of play to make a difference," McLellan said. "They don't have to score every night, they don't have to carry the team, but their minutes have to be difference-making minutes. I think they can be better in that area." The Sharks enter the final week of the season in second place in the Pacific division and that is likely where they will finish.
