Burrows has decided to retire after 13 NHL seasons, NHLPA.com reports.

The Senators placed Burrows on unconditional waivers Tuesday to initiate a contract buyout, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.

Burrows has fully served his 10-game suspension for repeatedly kneeing Devils forward Taylor Hall in a Feb. 6 contest. The 36-year-old winger will be eligible to play in Friday night's road game against the Golden Knights.

Burrows, who was waived by the Senators on Sunday, will fully serve out his suspension by sitting out of Tuesday's game against the Capitals. The winger will remain in the NHL, reprising his fourth-line role upon returning, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.
