Although Daniel Alfredsson has indicated he wants to play this upcoming season, he wants to make sure his body can handle the physical grind as he has ongoing back issues.
In that he will turn 42 in December, that probably isn't a bad tact to take. Red Wing GM Ken Holland is not pressurring Alfredsson to confirm his desire to return. "Alfie told me he wants to play again but he'd like to feel better," said Holland. "He feels good but he wants to be tested and he can't be tested until he skates in August and September (during conditioning skates)." There is no worry that Alfredsson will play for another team or that a contract could not be worked out with the Wings. It will be Detroit or the golf course for the veteran in 2014-15.
Daniel Alfredsson is interested in returning for the 2014-15 campaign.
That's good news for Detroit as Alfredsson is coming off of a solid season where he scored 18 goals and 49 points in 68 games. He'll turn 42 in December, but should still get around 50 points as long as he can stay relatively healthy.
The Detroit Red Wings would like to have Daniel Alfredsson on their team next season if he's willing to return for another year.
The Red Wings are reportedly awaiting a response from the veteran winger about his future in the NHL and are prepared to offer the unrestricted free agent a deal to remain with the team. In his first season away from the Ottawa Senators, the 41-year-old amassed 49 points in 68 contests with Detroit, proving that he's still capable of being productive despite his advanced age.
Daniel Alfredsson isn't expected to make a decision on his playing future until later this month.
He should have a decision in place before the start of free agency in July. If he doesn't retire and the money makes sense then he could be back with the Detroit Red Wings for the 2014-15 campaign. There is mutual interest to have him return for anther season, but GM Ken Holland hasn't spoken with him yet.
Daniel Alfredsson said that if he returns next season, it will likely be with the Red Wings.
He said he would take some time to ultimately decide. The 41-year-old was pointless in three playoff games against the Bruins, after a season in which he tallied 18 goals and 49 points in 68 regular-season games. Alfredsson was dinged up throughout the season and missed Games 3 and 4 due to a back injury. On the chance that Alfredsson comes back, coach Mike Babcock said,"That's a discussion for another time. Health is a big part of any veteran player."
Daniel Alfredsson will take Todd Bertuzzi's place in the lineup Saturday afternoon.
He sat out Detroit's past two playoff games due to lower-back pain. The Red Wings could use his leadership right now, as they try to avoid elimination at the hands of the Bruins in Game 5.
Daniel Alfredsson is expected to return to action Saturday afternoon for Game 5 against the Bruins.
He missed games 3 and 4 with a back problem but practiced Friday between Darren Helm and Johan Franzen and looks as if he will be good to go in Saturday's matinee.
Daniel Alfredsson (back) won't play Thursday.
Coach Mike Babcock said Alfredsson was "feeling better [Thursday]" and he could be available for Saturday in Game 5. The veteran forward wasn't able to play on Tuesday because of a lingering back issue.
Daniel Alfredsson is dealing with a back injury.
Alfredsson will miss Game 3 of Detroit's playoff series against Boston as a result. He previously was unavailable for the Red Wings' regular season finale and six games in January due to back issues. He had no points or shots on goal in two playoff contests.
Daniel Alfredsson will miss Sunday's game against St. Louis due to his lingering back problems.
Alfredsson is expected to still be fine to play for Detroit in Game 1 of the first round. That might mean that it might be possible for him to play on Sunday, but won't because the season finale is of little consequence to Detroit.
