He had great wheels, even in his late 30s, though he was nowhere near as good as when he was winning the Norris Trophy for best defenseman (twice), the Stanley Cup (three times) and the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP (once). An excellent passer, he generated offense mostly due to his mobility and his hockey sense. Later in his career, he struggled to defend against the rush.
