"He didn't have a good camp, but [the demotion] wasn't based on just one thing," Panthers coach Kevin Dineen said. "The message I send him is that this isn't a closed door. He needs to go down and get his game in order so he can help this organization." Crabb had no points in just 9:49 minutes of ice time before heading to the AHL. The 30-year-old has played in 171 NHL games and we don't anticipate him ever having much fantasy value in standard leagues.

Crabb had two goals and eight penalty minutes in 26 games with the Capitals last season. He made his Panthers debut on Thursday and logged 9:49 minutes in their 7-2 defeat.

Crabb might be one of the team's biggest losers from those PTO signings. He has plenty of NHL experience (170 career regular season games) but will probably clear waivers anyway. Florida signed him to a two-year, $1.2 million deal in July.

"He has no intentions to sign back with the Capitals," Crabb's agent, Kevin Epp, wrote in an e-mail to the Washington Post. "I don't think it worked out for either party." He skated in 26 games with the Capitals and he scored two goals. He didn't play an NHL game after March 17 though and he was placed on waivers when Mike Green returned to action from injured reserve. He spent the rest of the season in the minors after he went unclaimed. Crabb will become an unrestricted free agent in July 5.
It's possible that Joey Crabb could play in Monday night's Game 7.
Coach Adam Oates said there may be one lineup change, but he wouldn't say what it would be. Stephen Whyno of The Washington Times speculates that the change might be Crabb for rookie Tom Wilson, who has played in the past two games for the Capitals while seeing very little ice time.
