"Big Z" had the size (6'9"), strength and enormous reach to be an elite shutdown defenseman, despite a lack of great speed and mobility. He always played the game with enthusiasm and grit, owned a booming shot, was a leader in the room and a mentor to younger teammates. His active stick made things difficult for forwards, while his brawn made things uncomfortable. Very few players challenged him to a fight because he was elite in that area as well. He will go down as one of the all-time great defensemen in the National Hockey League. | |
Long Range Potential: | One of the greatest all-around defensemen in NHL history. |
