Drew MacIntyre has agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.
MacIntyre had a 2.53 GAA and .917 save percentage in 48 AHL contests in 2013-14. The 31-year-old will start the season in the minors, but he's a legitimate option to be called up in the event of an injury.
Drew MacIntyre can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
If he stays with the Leafs' organization and the team trades James Reimer then he could be an NHL backup next season. There's a chance that he may look for a more guaranteed job elsewhere. Drew MacIntyre continued his stellar play in the AHL playoffs.
He stopped all 30 shots in the Marlies 4-0 win over the Chicago Wolves Friday night leading the Maple Leafs' farm team to the AHL Western Conference Finals. If the Buds trade James Reimer this off-season, MacIntyre may find himself in Toronto in 2014-15.

MacIntyre gave up only four goals in the series and had a .955 save percentage as the 30-year-old led the Marlies into Round 2. MacIntyre could be the backup with the Maple Leafs next season as James Reimer could be moved out, but if Reimer remains, or if the Leafs decide on a more experienced NHL backup, then MacIntyre will likely return to the Marlies and provide a veteran presence in goal.
Making his first NHL start, Drew MacIntyre suffered a loss in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Panthers Thursday night.
The 30-year-old rookie deserves congratulations for finally making an NHL start, but he has virtually no fantasy value. Look for James Reimer to make at least one more start from here on in.
