Kanzig did not receive a qualifying offer from Carolina and will become a free agent on July 1.
Kanzig was traded to Carolina along with a 2019 sixth-round pick in exchange for Eddie Lack, Ryan Murphy, and a 2019 seventh-round pick, Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca reports.
Keegan Kanzig will report to AHL Abbotsford.
Kanzig had eight points and 99 penalty minutes in 63 WHL games this season. He was taken in the third round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
The Calgary Flames have signed big blueliner Keegan Kanzig to an entry level contract.
The six foot, seven inch Kanzig is a defensive defenseman who can take care of the front of the net. "It was all pretty cool," said Kanzig. "It wasn't too, too long before we got things figured out. But it was a pretty cool experience to be going back and forth, talking about different aspects. It was pretty shocking when you actually got the contract and sat down. Right before signing it, I was, 'This is a pro contract right here.' Very exciting. A huge honor." He has two goals and four points with 57 penalty minutes in 30 WHL games. His fantasy value will be in penalty minutes. "I'll do my best to work hard and strive to get there as soon as possible."
