SHARKS LAND NCAA DEFENSEMAN McNALLY Saturday, June 27, 2015
The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Patrick McNally from the Vancouver Canucks for a seventh-round draft pick in 2015 (No. 210 overall).
What does it give the San Jose Sharks?
McNally is obviously a defenseman that the Sharks wanted badly, since they dealt a draft pick in order to acquire his rights. He can become a free agent on August 15 if unable to come to terms with San Jose, but don't expect that to happen. He should sign with the Sharks and provide organizational depth.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks?
The Canucks were unable to come to terms with McNally and had already announced that they were moving on, so at least they were able to parlay that asset into a future asset. That's good asset management for Vancouver here.
Fantasy Impact
McNally doesn't have a lot of long-range fantasy upside, but he can at least be placed on the keeper radar (provided he signs with San Jose this summer).
