DUCKS LAND VETERAN WISNIEWSKI Monday, March 2, 2015
The Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman James Wisniewski and a third-round draft pick in 2015 from the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward William Karlsson, winger Rene Bourque and a second-round draft pick in 2015.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks?
The Ducks needed a power play point man to replace the injured Vatanen and they got one in veteran Wisniewski. They were also able to unload Bourque's contract, but it came at a steep price: Karlsson and a second rounder (though getting a third rounder back is big). Still, the Ducks are now a serious Cup contender.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets?
This could be a great deal for Columbus, mainly since Karlsson has a lot of upside as a talented, versatile forward. The second rounder will also help down the road. Bourque was probably added because of cap considerations and may or may not have much of a future in Columbus.
Fantasy Impact
Wisniewski should benefit from playing in Anaheim and could be a big plus on the power play. Karlsson is a potential steal if he gets minutes in Columbus (he will, eventually), while Bourque continue to be in fantasy limbo (no matter where he plays).
