Defensive depth here, as the Wild have run into a lot of injuries along the blueline this season. Leopold provides more veteran insurance, plus another left defenseman (a necessity in case Ballard isn't able to play again in 2014-15).

Falk is an aggressive depth defenseman, and his contract was probably needed to be off the books for Minnesota to complete this deal. He'll add some depth for Columbus but isn't likely to play much in the NHL for the rest of 2014-15.

There won't be much fantasy impact here. Leopold will play limited minutes in Minnesota, while Falk has no value unless he's racking up penalty minutes
