JETS GET STEMPNIAK FROM THE RANGERS Sunday, March 1, 2015
The Winnipeg Jets acquired winger Lee Stempniak from the New York Rangers for winger Carl Klingberg.
What does it give the Winnipeg Jets?
The Jets needed more depth on the wings, even after acquiring Stafford and Tlusty in separate deals recently. Stempniak should help here, and should once and for all keep Byfuglien on defense (rather than yo-yoing back and forth, depending on the injury situation). So it's an important move.
What does it give the New York Rangers?
The Rangers needed to shed salary after acquiring defenseman Yandle in a separate move. So they moved Stempniak (who had been playing on the fourth line this season) and got back a depth winger in Klingberg--who has 12 NHL games under his belt. The big Swede could return to Europe after this season.
Fantasy Impact
Stempniak is a player whose fantasy value could go either way now that he's been moved from the Rangers to the Jets. It could very well come down to Winnipeg's injury situation up front. As for Klingberg, his value is minimal because he's a candidate to return to Europe after this season (he's a pending restricted free agent).
