The Caps are a bit top-heavy when it comes to scoring forwards, so the underrated Glencross is a nice depth fit here. He has the offensive tools to play a top-six role if needed (and help out on the power play) yet is also the type of defensively-responsible winger head coach Barry Trotz covets. Glencross is additionally a free agent after this season, so if the injury-prone vet doesn't pan out then Washington can move forward fairly painlessly. If he does pan out he'll help the Caps with their playoff push while auditioning for teams for next season.

The Flames add two quality draft picks here in return for an oft-injured pending free agent--a nice haul. While Calgary is still fighting for a playoff spot, the team's core is mostly young and emerging players--so moving the aging Glencross (who isn't producing much lately) won't likely be a big loss now or in the future. His departure gives some of Calgary's younger players (such as Ferland and Poirier more minutes to show what they can do. Strong move overall for Calgary here.

In Washington the arrival of Glencross probably saps gifted young forward Burakovsky of any fantasy value for the rest of this season. As for Glencross himself, the move will likely give him at least a temporary fantasy boost, if not a long-term one. Meanwhile on the Flames, look for forwards such as Colborne and Jooris to potentially see expanded roles.
