FLAMES ACQUIRE SHORE FROM FLORIDA Friday, January 9, 2015
The Calgary Flames acquired center Drew Shore from the Florida Panthers for center Corban Knight.
What does it give the Calgary Flames?
This is a solid pickup for the Flames. Shore has plenty of talent and has appeared in the NHL before, but he was stuck in the numbers game with the Panthers--who currently boast several good young centers. Shore may have a better chance with Calgary, though they too have more center depth these days than they used to.
What does it give the Florida Panthers?
Knight was originally drafted by the Panthers (135th overall in 2009) but was dealt to Calgary in 2013. Clearly, they liked him enough to reacquire him here. While Knight doesn't have as much offensive upside as Shore, he could be the heir apparent to MacKenzie as the next fourth-line center in South Florida.
Fantasy Impact
Shore has definite fantasy sleeper appeal, especially if he gets a shot with the big club early. Knight's fantasy value remains the same, since his true value to an NHL team goes beyond the score sheet.
