BLUE JACKETS LAND VETERAN D-MAN LEOPOLD Saturday, November 15, 2014
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold from the St. Louis Blues for a fifth-round draft pick in 2016.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets?
The injury-ravaged Blue Jackets needed to do something to help stop the bleeding, as they have lost 11 of their first 16 games to begin 2014-15. Leopold is a veteran stabilizer along the blueline who wasn't playing much in St. Louis. He should get more opportunities in Columbus.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues?
The Blues added veteran Gunnarsson in the off-season, and Cole has elevated his play early on this year, so Leopold became expendable in St. Louis. That's why GM Doug Armstrong moved him to Columbus for a mid-round pick in two years. That's solid asset management.
Fantasy Impact
Leopold's fantasy value couldn't possibly go down after appearing in just seven of 16 games with St. Louis this season. With Murray still sidelined, he may see decent minutes with Columbus early on. After that, it's up to him to remain in the Jackets' lineup.
