MITCHELL STEPHENS SENT TO DETROIT Friday, July 30, 2021
The Detroit Red Wings acquired center Mitchell Stephens from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a sixth-round draft pick in 2022.
What does it give the Detroit Red Wings?
Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman knows Stephens well, so this move is not a big surprise. Stephens is a defensive center who will try to win a job on Detroit's fourth line in training camp.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning?
Despite losing Yanni Gourde to expansion and trading away Tyler Johnson, the Lightning still deemed Stephens expendable at the center position. That does not bode well for his NHL future.
Fantasy Impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as Stephens is not even a lock for a roster spot in Detroit. Plus, he is extremely limited in terms of his offensive acumen.
