SETH JONES JOINS CHICAGO! Friday, July 23, 2021
The Chicago Blackhawks acquired defenseman Seth Jones, a first-round draft pick in 2021 (No. 32 overall) and a sixth-round draft pick in 2022 for defenseman Adam Boqvist, a first-round draft pick in 2021 (No. 12 overall), a second-round draft pick in 2021 (No. 44 overall) and a conditional first-round draft pick in 2022.
What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks?
Wow! Jones joins brother Caleb (acquired from Edmonton earlier in the off-season) on a Blackhawks squad that badly needed a new No. 1 defenseman (after trading Duncan Keith to Edmonton in the Caleb Jones deal). Seth Jones will play the most minutes on the 'Hawks and become a cornerstone of the franchise. This is a massive deal for Chicago.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets?
Columbus must now face reality: they need to rebuild after dealing away one of the most important pieces of the franchise in Jones. In Boqvist, the Blue Jackets get a young offensive defenseman who should help take some of Jones' minutes (especially on the power play) and produce some of the missing offense. They get two firsts and a second in this deal, too.
Fantasy Impact
Both Jones and Boqvist should improve their fantasy stock with their new teams. So, draft both players with confidence!
