BLUES BRING IN BUCHNEVICH Friday, July 23, 2021
The St. Louis Blues acquired winger Pavel Buchnevich from the New York Rangers for winger Sammy Blais and a second-round draft pick in 2022.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues?
This is a good deal for both teams because it serves a purpose for both sides. For the Blues, Buchnevich is a nice addition for a team that is expected to trade fellow Russian winger Vladimir Tarasenko at some point this off-season. Look for Buchnevich to play in all situations in 2021-22. He is a restricted free agent.
What does it give the New York Rangers?
For the Rangers, who are trying to reshape the roster, this move makes sense. More moves are expected, and negotiations with Buchnevich's agent may have been difficult this off-season. So, they shipped him to St. Louis for Blais (who can play up and down the lineup on either wing) plus a second-rounder in '22.
Fantasy Impact
Buchnevich's fantasy value should remain solid in St. Louis. Meanwhile, Blais could be used all over the lineup in New York, so he remains a fantasy wild card.
