Ottawa Senators Eastern Conference Atlantic Division
Trade Details
'CANES, SENS SWAP THREE Saturday, February 13, 2021
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired forwards Cedric Paquette and Alex Galchenyuk from the Ottawa Senators for winger Ryan Dzingel.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes?
The Hurricanes are the contenders here, so adding more forward depth is a good thing. Paquette should thrive on Carolina's fourth line, much like he did in Tampa Bay en route to winning the Stanley Cup last summer. Galchenyuk is a journeyman offensive talent who will mostly provide depth. He needs to prove he can become a fixture in an NHL lineup.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators?
Dzingel is very familiar with his new destination. He was drafted by the Senators and spent the first three and a half seasons in Ottawa, before being dealt to Columbus in '18-19. He produced (by far) his best numbers in a Sens uniform, so the hope here is that he can go back to the future. He is a good fit with Ottawa, where he will likely play more minutes.
Fantasy Impact
Paquette has no fantasy value to speak of, since he is mostly a very good role player at the NHL level. Dzingel's fantasy stock should rise significantly now that he is back in Ottawa. He should be picked up in most leagues if he is still available. As for Galchenyuk, he is clearly the wild card in this deal. In deeper leagues, he might be worth stashing at this time. Otherwise, keep an eye on him.
