Winnipeg Jets Western Conference Central Division
Trade Details
JETS GET CODY EAKIN FROM VEGAS Friday, February 21, 2020
The Winnipeg Jets acquired center Cody Eakin from the Vegas Golden Knights for a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the Winnipeg Jets?
The Jets have a need for another center, especially since veteran Bryan Little is out for the rest of the season. Adam Lowry and Mark Letestu are also currently injured, so Eakin should help Winnipeg in their quest to maintain their playoff spot in the Western Conference. His arrival may allow both Blake Wheeler and Andrew Copp to play wing at the same time. They have been sharing time at center lately.
What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights?
For the Golden Knights, who are currently leading the Pacific Division, trading Eakin is not so much about the upcoming Stanley Cup playoff push but rather about asset management. With Eakin set to become a UFA this summer, the Knights decided to sell him for a conditional fourth-round pick in '21 (which can become a third in '21 if the Jets make the playoffs (or if they re-sign Eakin before July 5).
Fantasy Impact
Eakin's fantasy value should remain low, even after moving to Winnipeg. He can get hot in the points department from time to time but is not a reliable fantasy contributor.
