ALEC MARTINEZ MOVED TO VEGAS Wednesday, February 19, 2020
The Vegas Golden Knights acquired defenseman Alec Martinez from the Los Angeles Kings for a second-round draft pick in 2020 and a second-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights?
In Martinez, the Golden Knights land a solid, veteran defenseman with good mobility and the ability to play on either side of the ice. He is signed through 2020-21 with an affordable salary-cap hit of $4 million, so he might be able to make an impact in Vegas for a little longer than most acquisitions around the trade deadline. This is a good move by Vegas.
What does it give the Los Angeles Kings?
This is also a very solid return for Martinez from a Kings perspective, as two second-round draft picks (one each in '20 and '21) is a fairly solid haul for LA GM Rob Blake. Martinez is a former Stanley Cup champion who will obviously be missed on the Kings, but this was the right move at the right time for a team going nowhere and in desperate need of a rebuilding plan.
Fantasy Impact
Martinez has always had fringy fantasy value, so a move to Vegas should not change much here. His playing time figures to remain strong, plus there is a chance he may also see time on the power play. He could be a nice addition to fantasy teams looking for some blueline help down the stretch.
