Trade Details
GAUTHIER FOR KEANE Tuesday, February 18, 2020
The New York Rangers acquired winger Julien Gauthier from the Carolina Hurricanes for defenseman Joey Keane.
What does it give the New York Rangers?
This straight swap of prospects should help all parties involved. In Gauthier, the Rangers land a strapping winger with some untapped power forward upside. The 22-year-old Gauthier appeared in his first five NHL games earlier this season (5 GP, 0-1-1).
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes?
Keane, a third-round draft pick in 2018 (No. 88 overall), was recently recalled to the NHL for the first time in his career but did not appear in any games before being sent back down to the AHL. Keane, a solid puck mover who shoots right, should be a good fit in Carolina.
Fantasy Impact
Both Gauthier and Keane should benefit from this trade, although neither should automatically be picked up in standard keeper leagues. They are better candidates to be added in deeper formats, but should be simply monitored a little more closely at this time than anything else. They are non-factors in non-keeper formats.
