FABBRI FOR DE LA ROSE Wednesday, November 6, 2019
The Detroit Red Wings acquired winger Robby Fabbri from the St. Louis Blues for center Jacob De La Rose.
What does it give the Detroit Red Wings?
It is no secret that the Red Wings are having trouble scoring goals early on in 2019-20 (just 35 goals in 17 GP), so it makes sense that they added Fabbri here. The 23-year-old winger is an offensive player who has been beset by injuries throughout his NHL career. He will probably be given a major look on a scoring line in Detroit. He should help, though expectations need to be tempered.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues?
The Blues were not using Fabbri much so far this season (just 9 GP), so they are giving him a much better opportunity by sending him to Detroit. In return, the Blues add another solid defensive forward in De La Rose (who should provide more depth down the middle). De La Rose may not be in the Blues lineup all the time, but he is a solid addition to an already strong squad.
Fantasy Impact
Fabbri might be worth picking up in deeper leagues, since he is expected to get a lot of quality minutes with the Red Wings. That said, do not overrate him since he has battled a lot of injuries in recent years and may never realize his scoring potential. As for De La Rose, his ice time figures to dip as a member of the Blues (and he was never a great fantasy option in the first place). Pass.
