NASHVILLE BRINGS IN BRIAN BOYLE Wednesday, February 6, 2019
The Nashville Predators acquired forward Brian Boyle from the New Jersey Devils for a second-round draft pick in 2019.
What does it give the Nashville Predators?
The Predators will essentially replace the suspended Austin Watson with veteran Boyle in the lineup. The 6'6" Boyle can play wing and center, kill penalties and set up shop in front of the net on the power play as well. The 34-year-old moves to his sixth NHL team still searching for his first Stanley Cup ring. He may never get a better opportunity than with Nashville this season.
What does it give the New Jersey Devils?
After reaching the postseason in 2017-18, the Devils are enduring a miserable campaign this time around. Mired in last place in the Metropolitan Division, New Jersey is clearly in selling mode this season. Boyle was the first to be shipped out, in exchange for a second rounder. Fellow veteran forward Marcus Johansson is expected to be the next Devil to go.
Fantasy Impact
Boyle is mostly a defensive forward, but he has scored 13 goals so far in 2018-19. His stock should dip playing on a much deeper team in Nashville, where he is unlikely to see as much time on the power play.
