Trade Details
DEL ZOTTO DEALT TO ANAHEIM Thursday, January 17, 2019
The Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman Michael Del Zotto from the Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Luke Schenn and a seventh-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks?
The Ducks are struggling in a major way, so General Manager Bob Murray decided to shake things up with a series of minor trades. Del Zotto is a veteran defenseman who can play any role required. He is mobile but plays mostly a defensive game. He will probably play a third-pairing role for the rest of 2018-19 in Anaheim.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks?
Del Zotto had been a healthy scratch 17 times out of Vancouver's last 18 games. So, the Canucks dealt him to Anaheim for Schenn (currently playing in the AHL) and a late-round draft pick in '20. Both Schenn and Del Zotto are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on July 1. The Canucks save cap space here.
Fantasy Impact
Del Zotto is no longer much of a point producer (he has not played nearly enough to register points), though his playing time should now increase in Anaheim. He should not be picked up in virtually any league format at this time. Schenn is a defensive defenseman who should remain in the minors for the time being. Nothing to see here.
