JAKUB JERABEK JOINS ST. LOUIS Monday, October 1, 2018
The St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Jakub Jerabek from the Edmonton Oilers for a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues?
The Blues might be able to use Jerabek in a serviceable depth role throughout 2018-19. He can play either left or right defense, so there is a chance he might end up on the third pairing as a regular. The 27-year-old Czech has some untapped potential at the highest level.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers?
The Oilers felt comfortable with their blueline, even without the injured Andrej Sekera, to move Jerabek (who was acquired over the summer as an unrestricted free agent) immediately. If Jerabek plays 50 games for St. Louis in '18-19, the sixth rounder will become a fifth-round pick.
Fantasy Impact
Jerabek might be worth a last-round draft pick in very deep leagues this year, since he has some dark-horse appeal. However, it may be wiser to leave him on the free agent market in most leagues (at least until the Blues figure out how they will utilize him this season).
