The Edmonton Oilers acquired winger Nolan Vesey from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers?
The Oilers decided to add Vesey to their prospect pool, since he was not going to sign with Toronto (a much deeper team in terms of NHL-caliber prospects). This is a low-risk move for Edmonton.
What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs?
The Maple Leafs basically get something for nothing here, as the club was not going to sign Vesey and would have lost his rights later this summer. Instead, they receive a conditional last-round pick.
