BRUINS BRING IN FORWARD TOMMY WINGELS Monday, February 26, 2018
The Boston Bruins acquired forward Tommy Wingels from the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2019.
What does it give the Boston Bruins?
The Bruins already added Rick Nash to play a top-six winger role, and veteran Brian Gionta was signed for leadership and depth at right wing, so the addition of Wingels continues the forward depth narrative. Wingels can play all three forward positions, which gives coach Bruce Cassidy plenty of options down the stretch.
What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks?
Chicago is not used to acquiring draft picks for roster players at this time of the year, but reality set in for General Manager Stan Bowman this time around. He was able to parlay Wingels, a versatile forward acquired as a free agent last summer, into a future draft pick (and asset). Bowman must now do more than tinkering.
Fantasy Impact
Wingels will play a depth role in Boston, so his playing time and role will likely be inconsistent down the stretch. He should be avoided in virtually all fantasy formats.
