Owns an ideal pitcher's frame (6'3", 220 pounds) and the ability to strike batters out regularly at lower levels. Is particularly effective versus left-handed batters. Appears to have found his niche as a reliever, after spending a lot of time earlier in his developmental years as a starter. Struggles at times with his control, so he must limit the number of free passes he surrenders in order to maximize his appearances in MLB.
